Book Review: "Feral Creatures of Suburbia" by D. Liebhart

Feral Creatures of Suburbia is a gripping, thought-provoking read that dives into the ups and downs of motherhood, the chaos of raising teenagers, and the darker side of suburban life. The story follows three mothers—Julie, Varvara, and Crystal—each dealing with their own tough challenges with their kids.

Liebhart does a superb job of weaving their lives together, making the narrative both heart-wrenching and relatable. The multiple points of view really add depth, making you feel the characters’ struggles and fears. Julie’s worry about her son’s troubling behaviour, Varvara’s struggle to understand her emotionally complex daughter, and Crystal’s choice to keep her terminal illness a secret from her son are all handled with care and realism.

Be warned—the book tackles some heavy themes like mental health, terminal illness, suicide, and gun violence. The characters are well-developed and flawed, making them breathe on the page.

Feral Creatures of Suburbia is a compelling and emotionally charged novel that will hit home for anyone who’s faced the challenges of parenthood or tough life situations.

Highly recommended!
